Four Community Activist were arrested February 8th 2011 by New York City police after holding a People's Trial of Elected Officials and occupying the lobby of the shuttered St Vincent's Hospital in Greenwich Village on the lower West Side of Manhattan NYC. HANDS OFF ST VINCENT'S members read charges against US Federal Judge Cecelia Morris, US Senator Chuck Schumer, US Senator Kristine Gillibrand, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Borough President Scott Stringer, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, who represents the District St Vincent's Hospital is in, State Senator Thomas Duane Chair of the Senate Health Committee and State Assemblyman Richard Gottfreid, head of NYS Assembly Health Committee and former NY State Commissioner Of Health Daines. All were indicted in the People's Court with charges of neglect and complicity in allowing the closing of St Vincent's and for refusing to put a "land-lock" on the Hospital Location to protect it from being auction off to Real Estate interest for luxury Condo Development.

HANDS OFF ST VINCENT's spokesperson said, "This is just the beginning of a campaign to tell the truth of why St Vincent's with it Trauma 1 Emergency Room was allowed to close endangering the lives of over 1,000,000 residents of the district St Vincent's served. We look forward to working with other community groups who have been organizing to bring a full service hospital back to the St Vincent's location with a first class trauma 1 emergency room. We hold the elected officials responsible for betraying their very own constituency."

On the evening of Feb. 2, 2011, at City Council Speaker Christine Quinn's fundraising event, three peaceful protesters gathered to hold up a banner asking for a new hospital for the Lower West Side of Manhattan. Police told the protesters to move and pushed one of them, even though they were on a public sidewalk and not blocking traffic. Also, there were no barricades to indicate that there was a restricted zone. Is this the kind of treatment the people of New York City are to encounter just to get the hospital back? I'm glad no one was injured. If they were, the nearest hospital is a ways away.  But who cares about those kinds of details, right?
